Wartune is a browser-based MMO by Areia Games that will suck you into an immersive fantasy world full of magic and monsters. We had a playthrough and review of this popular RPG-style online game.
Play through the main campaign by yourself, in multiplayer mode, or face off against other players in the Battleground PvP arena. There are tons of side quests, hidden objects to seek out, and mini games to master, all while fighting and vanquishing monsters across tons of levels and environments.
The most attractive part of Wartune is the game elements it blends together from different genres. Wartune is an amazing type of hybrid: part RPG, part turn-based strategy game, part action game and even part Farmville. For the most part though, it is pure fantasy strategy. You choose between seven character classes that, like any RPG will gain more strength as you progress through the game. Characters are upgradable, customizable little creations of your own who you hone as the game progresses.
The combat is attractive, with impressively rendered 3D characters on a 2D drawn environment. The combat system is fast paced and intuitive. Part of the fun of the combat in the game is the timed window that your characters have to execute their attacks. This and enjoyably stressful feature actually keeps the battle mechanic interesting, and avoids becoming tedious like some other games. City environments let you build the structures that develop your characters. This is the kind of resource management and detail heavy gameplay that turn-based and real time strategists love to get into and make the game so addictive.
Final word: Beautiful design and graphics and millions of players make Wartune all around strong game, the fact that it’s free makes it even better.
