It’s totally cool to want to look good. A certain degree of care in how you are perceived is a sign of a healthy social attitude. You’re definitely not just narcissistic or shallow. It’s been proven—and this isn’t to say that it’s fair—that people who look better, do better whether it’s in business, sex life, or just getting along with people. If you’re putting some effort into how you look it means you don’t mind slipping in some of those three areas.
So what are we all going to do? It’s more likely to be born with a face for radio than movie star looks. Most people dress to impress. Here are some things that you can do to look your best no matter what wardrobe you’re working with.
1. Fake It Till You Make It
Still need to go out and put together the wardrobe that is going to get you noticed? Or insist on wearing torn jeans and stained tees as a fashion statement of how real you are? You can throw off the perception that your clothes look sloppy by using some high end accessories. This means wearable stuff like shades and sneakers but also includes technology. If your personal look is messy, throw it off by using an immaculate iPad with brand new white headphone wires. Get the microbrew with the complex flavors and order from the top shelf when you go out too.
2. Workout
Just do it. There is nothing you have to lose except a few extra pounds by hitting the gym, or even just doing a few pushups at home every day. Your confidence will double because of the endorphin release in your body so you’ll feel more confident, and you’ll wind up looking better which means you will get more positive attention and feedback from the world. Put the two together and you’re gold. Long term, you need to do this for your health anyway, so it’s almost shameful you’re making us bring it up.
3. Here is What’s Wrong With You
If you’re not honest about what your problems really are there’s no way anyone is going to be able to help you fix them. If you’re getting negative attention from people you should know why, and that’s something you should want to fix. Think you’re going bald and think that’s a problem for you? Go hit up the Rogaine right away. Don’t think you’re going to get the drastic tattoo removal surgery for that monstrously inappropriate tattoo on your forearm? Invest in some long sleeved shirts.
4. Wash and Rinse
It may seem like you’re setting yourself down into a makeup chair every morning but you can put a lot more care into your personal hygiene routine. This is a lot more than just making sure you’re showered before you leave the house. Guys can do a lot to primp themselves besides getting decent haircuts. Eyebrow threading, Biore strips, facial cleansers and waxing aren’t just for ladies. Keeping any facial hair you have up to snuff is a good idea too.
