The deregulation and de-stigmatization of marijuana is a growing trend around the world. Weed won another small battle recently: a new study, published in Britain’s “Scientific Reports,” finds that marijuana is by far the safest recreational drug. Hooray!
At the other end of the spectrum, the study found alcohol to be the most deadly drug, followed by heroin and cocaine. The study calls into question ideas about marijuana, which is illegal in most countries, while alcohol is completely legal in many places. The study used comparisons of fatal doses of each substance to amounts usually consumed by users. It does not intend to dictate “proper” use of the drugs in question but only to show each drug’s fatal potential.
